As the Pittsburgh Steelers enter the offseason, they have more questions than answers regarding their quarterback. Additionally, it appears like the available options are not very tempting, particularly for a team that will be selecting in the 20s in a weak quarterback draft class.
Instead of bringing back Russell Wilson or Justin Fields, could the Steelers try again with a seasoned option on the market? Despite the Jets’ poor performance under Aaron Rodgers’ leadership, NFL expert Peter King believes that Rodgers makes sense.
“I believe Russell Wilson struck a wall. I’m sure Mike Tomlin isn’t considering 2025 at the moment, if he is at all. They have a playoff game coming up, but if I were the Pittsburgh Steelers, I would have players on defense with expiration dates not far off, like Cam Heyward and TJ Watt. In 2025, I would like to try to acquire a quarterback that can help me compete with Cincinnati and Baltimore. “I think Aaron Rodgers would be that guy,” King remarked.
Rodgers did not play well this season as the Jets crashed and burned, and he is recovering from a damaged Achilles tendon. Rodgers is probably going to leave New York after sacking head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.
Although it would take some time to make a decision, Rodgers made a suggestion that he might retire at the end of the season. Therefore, if the Steelers were interested in acquiring Rodgers, they should be keeping an eye on that.
