Although they haven’t decided on Mike McCarthy’s future, the Dallas Cowboys think that if he is dismissed, one of the Eagle coordinators who previously worked with him would be considered for the position.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler wrote on Wednesday that he thinks the Eagles’ offensive coordinator, Kelvin Moore, will be considered as a head coach by several teams seeking to fill openings, including the Cowboys, should their post open up.
According to Fowler, Moore has undoubtedly benefited from his role as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator this season. I could see Dallas and other cities taking notice of him. There are plenty of offensive options in the carousel pool, but there is still opportunity for a sleeper, like Drew Petzing of Arizona or Liam Coen of Tampa Bay, to stand out. Last year, Dave Canales showed that by coming in late to get the Carolina position.
The Eagles’ offense, which averages 377.7 yards per game, is presently ranked fourth in the league. Although the team ranks 28th in passing (188.8 yards per game), they have the strongest rushing offense in the league (188.9 yards per game). The offenses Moore oversaw in the five seasons prior to joining the Eagles finished as the best in the NFL twice (in 2019 and 2021), with the 2021 offense averaging a league-high 31.2 points per game. The Chargers’ offense finished 18th in the league last season with an average of 329.4 yards per game.

McCarthy’s contract is in its last year. Despite winning their last two games, the Cowboys are 5-7, a dismal record for a club that should at least qualify for the playoffs after struggling for the most of the season.
Moore has interviewed for head coaching positions in the past, including the Eagles position following the 2020 season, when the team dismissed Doug Pederson. Nick Sirianni was eventually employed by the Eagles. Last season, Moore also did interviews with the Chargers and the Carolina Panthers, who the Eagles will play on Sunday.
Moore stated during a media availability on Tuesday that “every time you get an interview with an ownership and an organization, you get to grow a lot as an experience, and you get to grow your experience around the NFL, and they are awesome experiences every single time you get to do those.” You get to meet wonderful people, with whom you maintain some sort of relationship. Seeing some of those will be entertaining.
