The annual holiday wrestling tournament is held in Newport during the holiday break.
Seven teams competed this year, and Newport emerged victorious.
After a fierce bout, Buffalo Chris Imler pinned Camp Hill opponent Sam Miller at 3:50 in the quarterfinals.
Braxton Kerr and Wesson Benner would fight their way through the consolation bracket after losing to their opponents.
Keaton Paul, Justin Still, and Trevin Arnold all joined Imler’s pin party and received their own pins.
After being eliminated in the first round, Marek Polcha, Roman Polcha, Lane Wright, Aiden Crockett, Cainan Benner, and Kaj Miller made their debuts in the semi-finals.
At 1:51, M. Polcha fought and pinned Coventry Christian’s Weston Hammacher.
At 1:41, R. Polcha placed Jaden Jaisingh from Camp Hill on his back and added a pin to his record as well. He had reached the milestone of 100 career wins at a dual meet last week, and this adds another victory to that total.
At 3:53, Imler continued to battle his way through the tournament, defeating Annville-Cleona’s Aedan Castka with another pin.
In order to reach the finals, Wright, Benner, and Miller also received pins.
Crockett suffered an 18-2 technical fall against Jonathan Tlumach of Middletown. Additionally, Arnold lost by fall against Blaine Leitz of Annville-Cleona and did not advance past the semifinals. After 16 seconds, Paul was pinned.
Nevertheless, he defeated Quin Deavalcante of Camp Hill 3-1 to go to the finals as the eighth wrestler from Newport.
The Buffaloes participated in the title game and helped the squad win.
With a 54-second pin against Annville-Cleona’s Jarden Jorge, M. Polcha got things going.
R. Polcha did the same, defeating Middletown’s Berstler Nolan via a 15-0 tech fall.
When Imler got Middletown’s Cayden Geiter to his back at 5:12, he secured his third pin of the day and his title.
In a close 5-4 decision, Wright lost to Joshua Tlumach of Middletown for second place.
At 3:04, Benner pinned Asher Minium of Camp Hill, and in 35 seconds, Harrisburg’s Rajohn Rodriguez pinned Still.
Miller sealed the 193.5 victory for Newport with a last major decision against Harrisburg’s Gideon Fasanya, 10-2.
After attending the Juniata Pooled Duals on January 4, the Buffaloes will travel to Bermudian Springs for a dual meet on January 14.
