Grocery shopping in Miami-Dade just got a little more productive for local residents.
According to an announcement from the NBC Miami, the county has installed new self-service kiosks at select Publix Supermarkets that will allow customers to renew and print their vehicle registrations.
Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez launched the initiative as a means to simplify a typically bureaucratic task.
The kiosks, meant to quickly handle a vehicle registration renewal, are a part of a push to make essential public services more accessible.
“Our responsibility is to make government more accessible, efficient, and responsive to the needs of our residents,” Fernandez said in a statement obtained by WSVN. The technology offers a convenience that seems to fuse the mundane task of governmental paperwork with the everyday routine of picking up bread and milk.
As of now, there are five Publix locations hosting these new kiosks, including ones on Southwest 152nd Street and Southwest 127th Avenue in Miami, Northwest 104th Avenue in Doral, West Avenue in Miami Beach, and North Homestead Boulevard in Homestead.
While the machines are designed for standard vehicle renewals, they cannot be used to secure new license plates, address specialized documentation, or resolve suspensions as stated in the WSVN report.
Accessibility appears to be at the forefront of this initiative. Fernandez reiterated the county’s dedication to accessible services, stating, “By introducing self-service kiosks in familiar, everyday locations, we are removing barriers and modernizing how residents interact with essential public services.”
Payments at the kiosks can be made using credit or debit cards, and where available, cash, according to the information provided by NBC Miami. However, for more complicated tasks like boat registrations, personalized plates, and vehicles with insurance or license suspensions, residents will have to seek out traditional methods.
