The National Weather Service predicts that after potential snow and ice on Sunday, Central Pennsylvania will experience days of rain and sunshine alternately this coming week.

The NWS predicts that Sunday’s mix of rain and snow will only persist at higher elevations, with little accumulation in low-lying areas surrounding Harrisburg.

Later this morning and into the early afternoon, wintry precipitation will sweep from west to east throughout central Pennsylvania. Because of the ice in the Laurels and the snow in the central ridges and valleys, prepare for slick travel conditions. For higher terrain areas around I-80 and US-15, up to 3 to 5 inches of snow are anticipated.Je9qmYnme #PAwxpic.twitter.com

Cumberland and Dauphin counties are not included in the agency’s winter weather alert for Sunday and Monday, but Franklin and Perry counties are. While Sunday night temperatures are expected to remain above freezing, the NWS warned that a sheen of ice could form throughout the region.

Rain and overcast skies are predicted to persist through Monday evening, followed by sunny skies on Tuesday with temperatures as high as the mid-50s due to a higher-pressure system.

As a low-pressure system moves eastward from the Ohio Valley, the NWS predicts rain to resume late Wednesday into early Thursday. However, it is anticipated that clouds will clear during the day on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, bringing with them bright, sunny sky.

As the week draws to a close, daytime highs are predicted to drop from the mid-40s on Wednesday and Thursday to the mid-30s on Friday and Saturday.

For the majority of central Pennsylvania, winter weather headlines have been released. These will be available from Sunday AM until Monday AM. Snow in the Central Ridges and Valleys and freezing rain/ice in the Laurel highlands will be the main issues. Most of central Pennsylvania might be covered with a coating of ice.Twitter: pic.twitter.com/BC9cSXpvuj
