UPDATE: A Harrisburg homicide suspect was killed following a run-in with the police.

According to police court filings filed Monday, two males got into a fight on Sunday night, and one of them shot the other in the head in a Harrisburg alley.

In relation to the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Jhonny Torreson on the 300 block of Nectarine Street, 29-year-old Santiago Gutierrez was charged with murder on Monday.

According to a probable cause document submitted by Harrisburg police,

When he went to see a relative who lives on the 300 block of Nectarine Street, an alley off of Swatara Street, on Sunday night, a witness told police that his companion, whom he named as Gutierrez, rode with him.

According to court documents, Gutierrez resides in Carlisle.

Gutierrez remained outside in the car, parked in the center of the alley, while the witness went inside his relative’s house. Gutierrez was waiting outside when Torres came up to him. According to court filings, the witness told police that Torres and Gutierrez were the only people in the lane at the time.

Torres and Gutierrez got into a heated disagreement, and Torres turned to leave. According to the affidavit, Gutierrez shot him at least once in the head while he was doing so. According to court records, Gutierrez left the scene of the shooting.

Around 8:30 p.m., when police came and discovered Torres’ body, the man who had driven to Nectarine Street with Gutierrez was still there. According to the complaint, he later identified Gutierrez as the person who shot Torres from a photograph.

According to court documents, Gutierrez was charged with a guns violation in addition to homicide since he does not have a Pennsylvania gun license.

As of Tuesday, Gutierrez is still at large.

Compared to 13 at this time last year, Torres’ homicide was the 22nd in Harrisburg in 2024. There are still seven unresolved cases.
