UPDATE: A man accused of killing a prisoner at Camp Hill is also charged with two fatal shootings in Harrisburg.
According to a press release, a 35-year-old inmate at the state prison in Camp Hill passed away on Wednesday following an attack by another inmate in the recreation yard.
At 8:51 a.m. after the assault, Spencer Kassel, who began serving a sentence of one to two years on Dec. 9 for a conviction of aggravated assault in Centre County, was declared dead, according to the news release.
According to information provided late Wednesday afternoon by the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), 29-year-old Hezekiah Campbell stabbed and assaulted Kassel before being taken into custody by Department of Corrections (DOC) personnel.
As of Wednesday night, Campbell was not facing any charges. The death is being looked into by PSP.
The Cumberland County Coroner’s office will decide Kassel’s cause and manner of death.
The DOC news release states that his next of kin have been informed of his passing.
