Before founding member Phil Lesh passed away earlier this year, the remaining members of the Grateful Dead were preparing to get back together for their 60th anniversary.

Bassist Lesh passed away on October 25 at the age of 84.

According to Billboard, his remaining bandmates, Mickey Hart, Bob Weir, and Bill Kreutzman, made the discovery when they sat down with CBS This Morning after his passing.

Weir told CBS, “We were going to see where it goes.” However, we only intended to play as a quartet. There are now just the three of us.

Kreutzman expressed his hope that they will get another opportunity to play with Lesh.

That’s why I was unhappy about that one; I knew he wanted to play with us once more, he added.

Weir said, “We were kickin’ it around.” Actually, we were planning to meet together and play some music tomorrow.

The group was founded in 1965. Jerry Garcia, the main guitarist and frontman, passed away in 1995.
