The son of a Linebacker U icon, LaVar Arrington II, signed with Penn State’s 2025 recruiting class on Wednesday, thereby becoming a Nittany Lion.
Arrington is a four-star linebacker from Charter Oak High School in California. His father is the legendary LaVar Arrington of Penn State. According to 247 Sports, Arrington is rated as high as the No. 9 linebacker and the 127th best prospect overall in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
In July, Arrington verbally committed to Penn State. Despite offers from fifteen other institutions, including Michigan, Missouri, Tennessee, and Oregon, he chose the Nittany Lions.
James Franklin and his team won because of Arrington’s dedication. They added another linebacker with potential to the 2025 class in addition to a heritage prospect.
Along with Alex Tatsch, a four-star from Greater Latrobe, and Dayshaun Burnett, a four-star from Imani Christian, Arrington is one of three linebackers in the class. A month after four-star linebacker D.J. McClary switched from Penn State to Rutgers, Arrington committed.
Arrington is carrying on his father’s legacy. During his Penn State career, the elder Arrington recorded 173 tackles, 39 tackles for loss, and 19 sacks, earning him a spot on the first team twice. In 2022, Arrington received his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.
