Pittsburgh –After missing the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals due to a persistent back problem, cornerback Donte Jackson is optimistic that he will be able to play against the Baltimore Ravens.
Jackson has been forced to miss two games and leave two others early due to a pinched nerve in his lower back. Jackson reports that he feels well now, but the team is taking it carefully, even if it means shielding him from himself, because it is bothering him and has come up several times.
“I’m not really trying to aggravate it; I’m just keeping it comfortable,” Jackson added. It simply comes down to maintaining the treatments and attempting to keep it warm. Since I’m so irritable, it’s really just bothering me. So certain moves, just make it a bit worse. Yes, I’m simply trying to keep things cozy and follow the strategy the training room has set up for me.”
Jackson said that last week he wanted to participate, but the coaching staff and head coach Mike Tomlin persuaded him to stay out of the game in order to prevent the injury from getting worse. It is crucial to handle this kind of damage, particularly when it comes to pain.
Coach T loves to teach me that sometimes you have to protect me from myself as well. “Just protect you from yourself,” Jackson replied. We are aware of your desire to be outside. We understand that you want to give it your all and work tirelessly with the team, but we will need you when we need you.”
The Steelers will use Cory Trice, a second-year cornerback who started his first game against the Bengals, if Jackson is unable to participate. Trice had an up-and-down game against Ja Marr Chase, but the Steelers’ extensive use of man coverage made it a baptism by fire.
The Steelers will be hoping to see Jackson’s earlier season form, when he played with a great deal of zeal and intensity, if he returns for this game. Jackson aspires to be there when it matters most, but injuries have prevented him from having a healthy season.
