Pittsburgh –Larry Ogunjobi, the starting defensive lineman, suffered a groin injury early in the first half of Sunday’s game, costing the Pittsburgh Steelers another defensive lineman. Ogunjobi pulled up after lunging to try to make a sack on Jameis Winston.
The Steelers declared Ogunjobi out early in the second half as he attempted to persevere but was soon pulled when his attempts were unsuccessful. Head coach Mike Tomlin brought up the injury following the game, but it’s still too early to determine how bad it is.
Isaiah Loudermilk gave the Steelers excellent play when Ogunjobi was sidelined. In addition, they benched Dean Lowry, leaving the team with just three healthy interior defensive linemen following Ogunjobi’s injury.
If Ogunjobi is going to lose time going forward, the team would benefit from the return of nose tackle Montravius Adams, who is battling his way back from a torn meniscus, against the Philadelphia Eagles.
It appears likely that Loudermilk and Lowry will divide the reps if he is unable to play. Adams’ comeback may portend additional sub-packages including him and Keeanu Benton.
