For the past six years, musicians from all across central Pennsylvania have collaborated to produce a Christmas record with the goal of raising funds for Harrisburg’s homeless population.

Joy to the Burg 2024 is now on sale, carrying on the tradition this year.

Musicians and visual artists are working together on the project to produce greeting cards and an album. Eight greeting cards and two discs created by artists in central Pennsylvania are included in this year’s album.

The album’s and the cards’ proceeds will support initiatives with Christian Churches United in Harrisburg, whose mission is to unite neighborhood churches, community partners, and concerned neighbors to provide supportive programs and compassionate engagement to those experiencing homelessness, incarceration, and poverty.

Joy to the Burg was conceived in 2019 by Sheldon Jones, a member of the local band Loco Lobo, and the record and cards have raised more than $187,000 in the last five years.

The CCU’s Winter Overnight Shelter for Women and Non-Binary people was able to earn enough money thanks to the first record. It formally removed the word “winter” from its name on November 18 and began operating as a year-round refuge for the underprivileged.

The Capital Area Coalition on Homelessness’ planning work, the artists of Joy to the Burg, and financial support from Mayor Wanda R.D. Williams’ administration have made it possible for us to extend this program to a year-round activity, CCU said in a press release.

On December 15, from 2:30 to 6 p.m., a couple of the performers from this year’s record will play a benefit performance at the Englewood Hershey, which is situated at 1219 W. End Ave., Suite B, Hummelstown. GR8 EFX, Antonio Andrade, Holly Serio, The Starving Musicians, and No Last Call are among the performers. Groove Rebels will be the main act.
