Jacksonville, Florida. Two sideline-clearing altercations broke out after Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was carried off the field following a forceful elbow to the facemask from Houston defender Azeez Al-Shaair.
As teammates rallied around him and surrounded Al-Shaair, whose alleged cheap shot might earn him a punishment, Lawrence lay on the ground for a number of minutes.
After some assistance, Lawrence was lifted off the field and placed in the front seat of a cart. He wasn’t taken to a hospital for examinations. However, he was promptly ruled out due to a concussion.
Following the initial altercation, Al-Shaair and Jaguars rookie cornerback Jarrian Jones were sent off. Fans and veteran guard Brandon Scherff began yelling at Al-Shaair as he was exiting the field, starting a new altercation.
Before play restarted, coaches and officials brought the teams under control.
Lawrence was substituted by Mac Jones while the Jaguars were behind 6-0.
