LORENCE, Italy (AP) — Edoardo Bove, a midfielder for Fiorentina, collapsed on the field during his team’s Serie A match against Inter Milan on Sunday, and the game was called off shortly after. Bove is currently in a medically induced coma.

Bove’s colleagues promptly asked for medical assistance, and both teams encircled the 22-year-old while he received treatment. He was then quickly carried to an ambulance close to the field and sent to Careggi Hospital in Florence.

According to a statement from Fiorentina and the Careggi University Hospital, football player Edoardo Bove is presently in intensive care and under pharmacological sedation. Acute injury to the central nervous system and the cardio-respiratory system has been ruled out by the initial neurological and cardiological testing. Within the next 24 hours, Edoardo Bove will undergo another evaluation.

According to Sky Italia, the footballer was breathing on his own when he regained consciousness in the ambulance.

Fiorentina coach Raffaele Palladino, Bove’s parents, his girlfriend, and the majority of his teammates, together with club administrators and the mayor of the city, have all arrived at the hospital.

Additionally, Fiorentina supporters gathered outside the hospital and held a sign that read, “Florence is with you, Edoardo.”

Rocco Commisso, the president of Fiorentina, reiterated that attitude, saying that he and his family stay in close communication with Bove and his family from the United States.

“We’re with you, Edoardo,” Commisso added. You have excellent character and are a strong boy.

Players and clubs continued to post supportive comments on social media. Federico Dimarco, an Inter midfielder who was playing at the time, wrote, “Forza Edo, we are all with you and your family.”

Staff members and Inter players consoled the distressed Fiorentina players on the field. Before the teams moved off the field, a few of them were crying aloud.

The Italian league game was abruptly stopped and then abandoned. When Bove’s collapse occurred, the score was 0-0.

Many Fiorentina supporters and players remember former captain David Astori, who was discovered dead in his hotel room prior to a game in Udine in March 2018.

This year, there have been two instances of a player passing out during a Serie A game. Evan Ndicka, a defender for Roma, experienced it during his team’s April match against Udinese.

A graduate of Roma’s youth academy, Bove joined Fiorentina on loan during the offseason with the possibility of a permanent deal.

Romelu Lukaku, who played for Bove at Roma the previous season, shared a picture of the two of them during a game with the message, “I love you, little bro.” We’re all on your side.
