FLORENCE, Italy (AP) — Edoardo Bove, a midfielder for Fiorentina, fell on the field during Sunday’s Serie A encounter against Inter Milan at home. The game was called off immediately after.
Bove’s teammates promptly asked for medical assistance, and both teams surrounding the 22-year-old while he received treatment. He was then quickly carried to an ambulance close to the field and rushed to the hospital.
Staff members and Inter players consoled the distressed Fiorentina players on the field. Before the teams moved off the field, a few of them were crying aloud.
When Bove went down in the sixteenth minute, play was down the other end, and the Italian league game was stopped right away before being abandoned. When Bove’s collapse occurred, the score was 0-0.
Fiorentina has not yet provided an update on Bove’s condition, while unverified Italian media reports claim he has regained consciousness and is breathing on his own.
Fiorentina coach Raffaele Palladino has joined Bove’s father and fiancée at the hospital.
Many Fiorentina supporters and players remember former captain David Astori, who was discovered dead in his hotel room prior to a game in Udine in March 2018.
This year, there have been two instances of a player passing out during a Serie A game. Evan Ndicka, a defender for Roma, experienced it during his team’s April match against Udinese.
