Recently, Washington, DC, received about 10 inches of snow. That was more than sufficient to close down the capital of the country. Fortunately, all of DC’s politicians and lobbyists were safe at home. The electricity required to keep everyone warm was provided by their local utility, Pepco, which generates about half of its electricity from coal and natural gas. However, what about the remainder of the nation? How secure are they compared to Washington? Not always.
