Over the weekend, Bob Bryar, the former drummer for My Chemical Romance, was discovered dead in his Tennessee home.

The band issued a brief joint statement this week, but Frank Iero, the rhythm guitarist, recently talked about losing his former bandmate on social media.

Iero, who has been with the band since the beginning, wrote, “I still don’t feel like this is real,” in an Instagram post on Tuesday.

Iero writes, “I’ve been thinking about Bob and the person I knew him to be a lot over the past few days.” Among the things that stand out are the following: BC Bryar had many facets. He frequently occupied both sides of any spectrum simultaneously, making him somewhat of a mystery.

Although he was my bandmate and buddy, I had known him as a stranger for the majority of my life. For a while, we lived together, on and off the road, but after the band, we would go months without speaking to each other until I texted him to wish him a happy birthday or he would suddenly contact me to ask how old the kids were or to see how my dad was feeling.

Iero continues by describing Bryar as someone who loves animals but didn’t particularly enjoy being among people. Additionally, he recounts how Bryar had to deliver the news when My Chemical Romance decided to fire him from the band.

Iero claims that he purposefully separated himself not long after that.

Bryar collaborated with My Chemical Romance on their albums The Black Parade and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. At the beginning of Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, he was fired from his position as drummer.

Iero adds: I don’t think I ever had the opportunity to apologize to him; I’m not sure whether it would have made a difference, but I really wish I had completed our September text exchange. BC, I hope you get some serenity. I’m happy that the universe gave me some time to get to know you.

Prior to his remains being found, Bryar had apparently not been seen since November 4. Although more information regarding his cause of death is still coming, no foul play has been detected.
