With the victory on Saturday night, New York (22-20-3, in the Metropolitan Division) is 6-2-2 in its previous ten games. Igor Shesterkin recorded his second shutout of the season and his 17th career, stopping 27 shots while Vincent Trocheck scored the game’s lone goal in the shootout.
Trocheck scored on the Rangers’ second-round try in the shootout, while Shesterkin stopped Adam Fantilli and Kirill Marchenko from scoring on the Blue Jackets’ last two attempts to seal the victory.
In the last ten games, Trocheck has four goals and three assists.Rangers’ top scorer with 19 goals and 47 points is Artemi Panarin.
Shesterkin has a 2.87 goals-against average and is 15-15-0-2 in 32 starts.
On the road, New York is 12-11-1.
In the Atlantic Division, Montreal (22-19-4) is 7-2-1 over the past ten games and 11-8-3 at home.
Patrik Laine, Josh Anderson, and Kirby Dach gave the Canadiens a 3-0 lead in the first period, but they just suffered their worst defeat of the year.
After then, visiting Toronto pulled away with five goals in the third period and two in the second.
In a losing effort, Sam Montembeault finished with 27 saves.

On Sunday, the teams will play each other for the third time this season. The Rangers prevailed 4-3 in the most recent encounter.
