Trocheck scored on the Rangers’ second-round try in the shootout, while Shesterkin stopped Adam Fantilli and Kirill Marchenko from scoring on the Blue Jackets’ last two attempts to seal the victory.
In the last ten games, Trocheck has four goals and three assists.Rangers’ top scorer with 19 goals and 47 points is Artemi Panarin.
Shesterkin has a 2.87 goals-against average and is 15-15-0-2 in 32 starts.
On the road, New York is 12-11-1.
In the Atlantic Division, Montreal (22-19-4) is 7-2-1 over the past ten games and 11-8-3 at home.
Patrik Laine, Josh Anderson, and Kirby Dach gave the Canadiens a 3-0 lead in the first period, but they just suffered their worst defeat of the year.
After then, visiting Toronto pulled away with five goals in the third period and two in the second.
In a losing effort, Sam Montembeault finished with 27 saves.
With 46 points, Nick Suzuki leads Montreal, while Cole Caufield leads in goals (24) and points (43).
In 34 starts, Montembeault is 16-16-0-3.
On Sunday, the teams will play each other for the third time this season. The Rangers prevailed 4-3 in the most recent encounter.
