Keys advanced to the Australian Open semifinals by defeating No. 10 Danielle Collins in the third round (7-6, 2-6, 7-5), No. 6 Elena Rybakina in the fourth round (6-3, 1-6, 6-3), and No. 28 Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals (3-6, 6-3, 6-4). Since her victory at the Adelaide International earlier this month, where she defeated No. 1 seed Jessica Pegula, the 29-year-old has won ten straight games.
Swiatek, a five-time Grand Slam champion, has not yet won or advanced to the Australian Open finals, thus Thursday’s match might be the first time she makes it to the Melbourne finals. The 23-year-old Polish player has dominated her opponents thus far, winning all five of her matches in straight sets and dropping just seven of her last four, including a 6-1, 6-2 victory over No. 8 Emma Navarro in the quarterfinals.
