Sinner, the two-time Grand Slam champion and reigning Australian Open champion, is a significant obstacle in Shelton’s path as he works his way to the Australian Open final. Shelton needed three tiebreakers to defeat Gael Monfils before he quit in the fourth round, and he has participated in at least one tiebreaker in each of his five Aussie Open encounters. Sinner, who won eight tournaments and about $20 million the previous season, had been outstanding in his first five games of the 2025 campaign. In the fourth round, he defeated No. 8 Alex De Minaur (6-3, 6-2, 6-1) and No. 13 Holger Rune (6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2).
