For the second consecutive weekend in Big Ten Conference play, Penn State is traveling to play a strong Rutgers squad, which has a 10-3 overall record and a No. 14 national ranking. After winning eight of ten individual bouts, the Nittany Lions, who have been almost perfect through eight duals, recently defeated No. 7 Nebraska (31-7). Although wrestling effectively in hostile circumstances has always been a strength of coach Cael Sanderson’s Lions, the road environment will be difficult for the squad to accept and overcome.
Nevertheless, Penn State’s wrestlers are certain to want to return from the Nebraska dual in a few matches. In addition, the Lions will face Iowa in a one-versus-two dual at the Bryce Jordan Center in February. They will also travel to face No. 4 Ohio State and No. 10 Illinois, two more rated opponents.
