An overview of the AFC Divisional Round encounter

Where: Kansas City, Missouri’s Arrowhead Stadium.
In an attempt to win a third consecutive Super Bowl, coach Andy Reid rested his starters after the Chiefs’ 15-2 regular season concluded with a second loss, earning them the No. 1 seed in the AFC. With the full support of a boisterous Arrowhead Stadium crowd and the chance to create NFL history, Kansas City started as a 7.5-point favorite. The Chiefs found their rhythm in the latter part of the season, winning six straight games, including a 27-19 victory over the Texans at Arrowhead in Week 16, after having to rely on cunning and experience to scrape past opponents in the first half of the season.
The Texans defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 32–12 in the AFC Wild Card round, limiting the Chargers’ running game to 50 yards on 18 carries and forcing four interceptions from Justin Herbert. After beginning the season 5-1, Houston struggled to a 5-6 record over its final 11 games, but ultimately finished 10-7 to win the AFC South Division. Nonetheless, the defense remained consistent throughout the game, finishing fifth in the NFL in overall defense (315.0 ypg), sixth against the pass (201.0 ypg), and fourth in sacks (49).
