According to Texans insider Aaron Wilson, Anthony Averett, a former cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has joined the Houston Texans. Despite spending a large portion of the season on the Steelers’ practice squad, Averett’s ailments plagued him. He was eventually released from the injured reserve practice squad, and the Texans have since signed him.

During the team’s preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, Averett first sustained a hamstring injury. He never played a game for the Steelers after suffering yet another injury during practice.

Following the team’s rookie minicamp, Averett had a successful audition and signed with the Steelers on May 13. After a solid start to training camp, he struggled to establish consistency, but he stepped up to play with the second team during the squad’s second week in Latrobe.

Before joining the Steelers this season, the former cornerback for the Baltimore Ravens played for the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers in 2023. He will now travel to Houston, where the secondary has seen a high number of injuries.
