Diontae Johnson, a wide receiver with the Pittsburgh Steelers, was waived by the Houston Texans. Following his release by the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16, Johnson was claimed off waivers by the Texans. After Johnson declined to play in the Ravens’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the team cut him. His role and lack of snaps bothered him.

Houston appears to have experienced the same issue. He only made one catch during their game against the Los Angeles Chargers, and he seemed clearly displeased afterward. Much of that appears to be related to his role, which Johnson feels ought to be more expansive.

This season, Johnson will be a free agent, which has significantly diminished his worth. He has only received four receptions since Week 8. The Steelers traded him this March, and the Carolina Panthers promptly moved on from him.

The team selected Johnson in the 2019 NFL Draft, and he played for them for five seasons before being traded. This year, he was in the final year of a two-year contract. His current goal is to sign with a new team this offseason.
