BALTIMORE –This offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense retooled. They overhauled the quarterback room and fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada. Even while they were better, they were still far less than expected.
Despite being the team’s most skilled wide receiver, George Pickens was not used frequently by the Steelers under offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. When Pickens was all but shut out in the last two weeks of the season, that kept getting worse.
Pickens has been questioned if he sees offensive growth ever since joining the Steelers. He claimed to have noticed improvement.
“Yes, I have definitely noticed growth. There has definitely been a lot more growth since my first year here,” Pickens stated.
But he said, “No,” when asked if he was hopeful about the team’s offensive future. One of the top players on the offensive gave a definitive response. In addition, Pickens will want a deal this summer and will undoubtedly be able to specify his terms and market worth before he signs it.
Although the Steelers will have to make a decision regarding Pickens’ future, Pickens’ statement highlights the necessity for a significant overhaul of the offense in order to bring in quality.
