On the penultimate play of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 24-19 loss to the Cleveland Browns last Thursday, wide receiver George Pickens got into a fight with defensive back Greg Newsome, but he avoided getting fined. Rather, the NFL probe found no misconduct, and Pickens and Newsomeeach were not punished for the altercation.

Donte Jackson and Damontae Kazee, two additional Steelers, were penalized for their excessive roughness and helmet use, respectively. Additionally punished was Browns safety Grant Delpit for stealing Pickens’ mouthpiece from his helmet and throwing it into the stands.

After the game, Pickens claimed nothing happened on the play, but Newsome called him out as a false tough man. At a press conference on Friday, Pickens refused to respond.

The NFL never looked into sanctions for the play, but they didn’t find anything that even came close to fines. Pickens was the play’s point man, according to head coach Mike Tomlin, meaning he would go up and high point the football, but Newsome shoved him out of the end zone.

A rematch between the Steelers and Browns is scheduled for December 8th at Acrisure Stadium. That is a game that Pickens and Newsome have marked on their calendars.
