The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office has taken over the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office’s investigation into hundreds of possibly fraudulent voter registrations, the office announced Tuesday.
According to the press release, the aforementioned voter registration applications were submitted to the Lancaster County Voter Registration Office in October 2024, shortly before the deadline for the presidential election in November.
Of the 1,203 applications, detectives from the county DA’s office found 383 to be fake and confirmed 367. An additional 453 applications are suspected of being fraudulent since they could not be validated.
The Lancaster County DA’s office stated that it is evident that the problem is multi-county since beginning the inquiry.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the Lancaster County Detectives for their diligent work over the past few months and commend them for their efforts in furthering the investigation,” said county DA Heather Adams. However, it is evident from the material exchanged amongst the various investigative agencies that the Attorney General’s Office is the most qualified to continue this multi-county inquiry. I am certain that the Attorney General’s Office will keep looking into this issue and bring those guilty for voter registration fraud and other crimes to justice.
Additionally, Adams expressed gratitude to the Lancaster County Voter Registration Office staff for reporting the alleged scam.
In order to warn other counties about voter registration fraud and to discourage the people behind the applications from attempting to convert fraudulent voter applications into fraudulent votes, we were able to announce this discovery and the start of our investigation due to their diligence, she said. This declaration was crucial in thwarting any preparations for future unlawful activity that would have affected our elections process in Lancaster County, especially with the election quickly approaching.
False identities, wrong Social Security numbers, and nonexistent addresses are all signs of fraud. Applications were found to be faked even though they contained accurate information in certain cases.
It is thought that the bogus applications are linked to a massive operation that began in June 2024.
