At quarterback, the Pittsburgh Steelers have almost no future plans. The team must eventually make a dart throw in the NFL Draft because, even if they re-sign Russell Wilson or Justin Fields, they are only bandaid solutions to a long-term issue.

Chris Canty, a former NFL defensive lineman and Super Bowl champion, wants the squad to accomplish just that. In order to acquire a young quarterback to invest in overall, Canty wants the Steelers to select Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe by trading back from the 21st overall pick.

Justin Fields should be re-signed in addition to selecting a quarterback, in my opinion. And I’ll tell you about a quarterback named Jalen Milroe. I believe that’s the path they take. Canty stated that the skill sets of the quarterbacks were similar.

Milroe has had trouble getting going, though, following a scorching start to the season. That was further demonstrated in Alabama’s defeat by Oklahoma, and it is highly probable that Milroe will not be selected in the first round. Although it is still possible to draft a quarterback, Milroe’s season-ending efforts make it seem unlikely.

He might, however, give up his stock when he attends the Senior Bowl the following week. It’s unclear how seriously the Steelers would consider a quarterback in this class, but they may scout him extensively and perhaps show interest.
