John Rhys Plumlee, a former wide receiver and quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has found a new team in the Seattle Seahawks, who are promoting him to the 53-man roster. He will probably be permitted to make his NFL wide receiver debut on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.
Plumlee has been employed by three different clubs as a wide receiver and quarterback. The Seahawks are the first team, though, to play him only as a wide receiver. Plumlee initially intended to try his hand at quarterbacking, but teams have been more interested in making him a wide receiver because of his size and outstanding athleticism.
After graduating from UCF as an undrafted free agent, Plumlee signed with the Steelers because they assured him of a quarterbacking opportunity. Plumlee would log time as a quarterback, serve as a kick returner, and fill in as a wide receiver for the remainder of the training camp.
However, Plumlee received several offers after being cut by the Steelers in their final cutdowns and chose to move to Jacksonville instead of Pittsburgh. He only worked as a quarterback for Jacksonville.
