Josh Dobbs, a former quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, will start for the San Francisco 49ers against the Arizona Cardinals. Dobbs is replacing Brock Purdy, the starting pitcher, who is experiencing some problems with the nerve in his right throwing arm due to an elbow injury.

After taking over late in Monday Night Football’s loss to the Detroit Lions, Dobbs will now get a full week of practice and a game to prove his abilities to the 49ers coaching staff.

After being selected in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Pittsburgh was his first team. Before being moved to the Jacksonville Jaguars, he played for the team for three seasons. He spent two more seasons in Pittsburgh after a brief stay in Jacksonville. Dobbs has since played for the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and currently the 49ers.

In spot starts during his career, he has accumulated over 500 rushing yards and 2920 throwing yards. Although he was inconsistent throughout the season, he was an important sparkplug for the Vikings last season.
