Michael Vickis, a former quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is in negotiations to take over as Norfolk State’s head coach. Although the quarterback is a legend at Virginia Tech and was outstanding with the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles, Vick’s coaching experience was as an advisor to the Atlanta Legends in 2019.
Vick has never had a collegiate coaching position. The local community has long supported Vick in Hampton Roads, and the school reached out to him for an interview. Vick appears to be beginning to show interest in return.
According to Vick, Norfolk State administrators contacted him, and he is excited about the chance to return the favor to the Hampton Roads community that has always stood by him, the Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk said.
According to Vick, the interest should be resolved shortly. After playing for the Steelers in 2015 as a backup quarterback, he retired. Vick, 44, believes that his experience as a quarterback has equipped him with leadership skills and that he can succeed as head coach at the university level.
