After Aaron Glenn departed the Detroit Lions to become the head coach of the New York Jets, former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Larry Foote is interviewing for the position of defensive coordinator. During his NFL career, Foote played for Michigan and spent one season as a Lion.
Under Todd Bowles, he coaches the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ inside linebackers. Although Foote has long been a contender for a defensive coordinator position, the Lions might offer him a fantastic opportunity.
From a schematic standpoint, the 44-year-old coach has been an integral part of Bowles’ staff and has produced several elite players in Tampa Bay. He has been Tampa Bay’s inside linebackers coach for seven seasons.
The Steelers selected Foote in the fourth round of the 2002 draft, and he remained with the team until the 2008 campaign, winning two Super Bowls. From 2010 until 2013, he rejoined the team for four more seasons. Before jumping to Tampa Bay, Foote coached with the Arizona Cardinals from 2015 to 2018 after receiving his coaching debut under Bruce Arians.
