According to several sources, Mike Vrabel, a former linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has agreed to take over as head coach of the New England Patriots. The Patriots sacked Jerod Mayo after just one day, and Vrabel will now be their next head coach. He and the team had been negotiating for a few days following his interview in Boston.

During his tenure as head coach of the Tennessee Titans from 2018 to 2023, Vrabel led the team to one AFC Championship. However, Vrabel was left without a head coaching position in 2024 after the Titans abruptly walked away from him. Vrabel joined the Cleveland Browns during the season to serve as head coach Kevin Stefanski’s advisor and consultant.

After playing for Bill Belichick and his Super Bowl teams in the 2000s, Vrabel will have his second head coaching job in the NFL with a team he knows the history of.
