ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that former Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert is joining Colorado State University’s staff as a consultant. After serving as general manager of the Steelers for more than two decades, Colbert retired three years ago, and Omar Khan assumed his responsibilities.
Since his retirement, Colbert had led the Steelers’ alumni program, facilitating connections between current and former players. As that liaison, he assisted former players in finding a purpose after retirement and moving on from football.
He will now enter the collegiate game, which is increasingly becoming the NFL. The majority of institutions will soon have a general manager and other scouting positions, and Colbert’s work as a consultant is no different from developing a personnel team.
Although Colbert’s future with the Steelers is uncertain, he will assist Colorado State in expanding their roster through the transfer portal and recruiting elements of the dynamic game, particularly with NIL currently at the forefront.
