In the past, former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Gerod Holliman was considered the team’s next draft steal. Holliman, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Louisville, was highly anticipated by the draft community after leading the country in interceptions in his last season of college.
Nevertheless, Holliman’s tackler issues occurred far too frequently, leading to his falling down boards and, ultimately, to the Steelers. But Holliman’s time with the Steelers ended when he was cut loose at the conclusion of his first training camp.
Speaking on the end of his time with the Steelers, Holliman claimed he never felt like he was treated fairly during an interview with the 31 Vision podcast.
“Unfortunately, the defensive backs coach mismanaged me during that time,” Holliman added. I was never really given a chance by him. Not a single preseason game did I ever start. If I were the starter, my playing time would have essentially equated to the first half of the game. It was that awful.
Holliman didn’t play much in the preseason, so that was accurate. However, his decline to the seventh round and subsequent release were caused by subpar athleticism and tackling. He was formerly considered a day two choice, but his uneven film and testing results rendered him a late day three pick.
Holliman joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in December after being cut by the Steelers, but the team elected not to re-sign him at the end of the season. Holliman’s career came to an end at that point.
