The city of PhiladelphiaOne former Penn State standout has left his imprint in the fight for Pennsylvania.
Pat Freiermuth, a tight end for the Pittsburgh Steelers, scored a touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field in the second quarter.
For Pittsburgh, Freiermuth has now scored a touchdown in three straight games. Since Heath Miller in 2012, he is the first tight end for the Steelers to accomplish that feat.
The timing of Freiermuth’s score for the Steelers couldn’t have been more ideal. In the last minutes of the first half, Russell Wilson’s eight-yard grab reduced the Eagles’ lead to 17–10.
Freiermuth has 44 receptions for 470 yards and five touchdowns going into Sunday’s game. In the 2021 NFL Draft, the fourth-year Steeler was selected in the second round.
Freiermuth excelled with the Nittany Lions before joining Pittsburgh. The 2020 Big Ten tight end of the year award went to the New England native.
There are other former Penn State standouts participating in Sunday’s game besides Freiermuth. With help from wide out Jahan Dotson, Saquon Barkley leads the Eagles’ offense. Joey Porter Jr. is a starting cornerback for the Steelers.
