According to David Teel of the Virginian-Pilot, Micahel Vick, a former quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles, has agreed to terms to take over as head coach at Norfolk State. The former Virginia Tech and sensational NFL quarterback will now be coaching a collegiate team for the first time after the two schools held discussions over the past several days.

Vick’s coaching experience was limited to his role as an advisor to the Atlanta Legends. Nonetheless, Norfolk State was a logical choice for Vick because of the community’s longstanding support in Hampton Roads.

After playing for the Steelers in 2015 as a backup quarterback, he retired. Vick enjoyed successful seasons with the Eagles from 2009 to 2013, making it to the Pro Bowl and taking home the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award in 2020.

Vick, 44, believes that his experience as a quarterback has equipped him with leadership skills and that he can succeed as head coach at the university level.

After the two parties reached an agreement on Vick’s coaching contract with the team, an initial press conference announcing his appointment as head coach is anticipated early next week.
