In addition to missing out on some of its top transfer portal targets thus far, Penn State has also had some significant setbacks. Another miss occurred on Monday.

Hayes Fawcett of On3 reports that former Oklahoma State hybrid linebacker/safety Kendal Daniels committed to Oklahoma. After Daniels’ December 16 visit to Penn State, the Nittany Lions were feeling optimistic about their prospects. Oklahoma obviously made a last-ditch effort. He was formerly a top four-star prospect in the class of 2021 and was listed as the fourth-best linebacker in the nation by 247Sports.

Daniels, a native of Beggs, Oklahoma, was reported at 6-4 and 235 pounds in 2024, his redshirt junior year. This season, he added 5.5 sacks, seven pass breakups, and 64 total tackles, ranking second on the Cowboys’ roster.

Daniels won the Big 12 Freshman of the Year award and was named an All-American freshman in 2022.

Penn State is probably going to keep searching for linebacker and safety additions. At the end of the season, key safety starters Jaylen Reed and Kevin Winston Jr., who had a similar hybrid position prior to Winston’s injury, will be leaving for the NFL. With Kobe King, Tony Rojas, and Dom DeLuca at linebacker, Penn State was already shorthanded.
