CINCINNATIP: Calvin Austin III, a wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, will not play against the Cincinnati Bengals due to a head injury. Austin was hurt during the last drive of the first half. On an out route, a Bengals defensive back struck him hard, and he was immediately brought to the locker room for assessment.
Austin got 29 yards from two catches. He cooked Bengals CB Mike Hilton on one of those catches, which resulted in a touchdown. Austin drew a defensive pass interference on Bengals linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither on the opening play of the game, which helped the Steelers gain 23 yards.
The finest season Austin has had so far in his career is 2024. The Memphis graduate, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Steelers, set career highs with 20 receptions for 354 yards and three touchdowns.
Over the past several weeks, Austin has been the Steelers’ obvious second wide receiver as the club has begun to rely more on him. Ben Skowronek and Mike Williams will play more now that he is not there.
