The city of PhiladelphiaEagles rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell sustained a shoulder injury during the opening drive of Sunday’s NFC divisional playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams. The team said it is uncertain if Mitchell will be able to return.

At the conclusion of the first quarter, Mitchell, who was selected by the Eagles in the first round of the 2024 draft, entered the locker room.

The 23-year-old was named a Pro Bowl alternate and is in the running for Defensive Rookie of the Year after giving up just 40 receptions and two touchdowns this season. The Philadelphia secondary was among the worst in the NFL before he turned it into one of the best.

Cornerback backupMitchell has been replaced by Isaiah Rodgers, who has started three games this season.

Stafford fired a 48-yard throw to wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, who was being covered by Rodgers, to the 19-yard line of Philadelphia to finish the first quarter.

On most plays, Stafford could go after Rodgers, who may be the Eagles’ worst defensive weakness.

The defense of the Eagles is in terrible shape. Linebacker Nakobe Dean sustained a season-ending injury last Sunday during the Eagles’ victory over the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round: a tear in his left patellar tendon.

The Eagles might find it difficult to stop the Rams without Mitchell and Dean.
