MDEagles Quarterback LandoverOne of the main reasons the team has a top-five offense this season is that Jalen Hurts has played almost every snap. Nevertheless, he was hurt during Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders, and the Eagles now risk missing him for a long time.

Hurts ran a quarterback pull up the middle for a 13-yard gain with 9:55 left in the first quarter as the Eagles were moving farther into Commanders territory. Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu struck Hurts in the head region as he was being tackled, causing Hurts to fall to the ground. Hurts stood up and joined the huddle at first, but the independent league physician asked for additional testing in the blue medical tent.

Hurts appeared prepared to return to the game after being examined, taking his helmet and walking to the sidelines. He was not, however, given the all-clear to go back. Hurts eventually jogged to the locker room after trainers stopped him from returning to the field on several occasions.

Backup quarterback Kenny Pickett entered the game when Hurts was sidelined and looked good, finishing all three of his passes for 20 yards, including a 4-yard touchdown to wide receiver A.J. Brown throughout the game. But Pickett stared down Brown on the next possession he was on the field for, and Luvu caught his throw. With a lead and the club attempting to win the NFC East, the Eagles will need Pickett to control the offense and prevent turnovers if Hurts is unable to return.
