The Philadelphia Eagles’ offense struggled in the first quarter of their 22-16 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Eagles failed to score a first-quarter point for the tenth time this season. Philadelphia has 17 first-quarter points after 14 weeks, which puts them lowest out of 32 NFL teams.
On their first drive, quarterback Jalen Hurts was sacked for a loss of eight yards on first-and-10 from Philadelphia’s 42-yard line, and Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson was given a 10-yard holding penalty on the first play. After running five plays, the Eagles punted the ball.
The Eagles’ second possession ended in a three-and-out.
The Eagles’ offense frequently commits errors at the start of games, including losing yards on poor plays and drawing penalties.
Although Philadelphia’s offense is among the best in the NFL, its sluggish starts remain an issue.
The Eagles’ offense usually settles into a groove after the first quarter. Running Saquon Barkley wears out opponents and bursts off monster runs as the game goes on.
To defeat the Lions or other elite NFC teams, this strategy might not be sufficient. Additionally, the Eagles have just four weeks remaining to resolve this problem.
After the game, Johnson responded, “We’ll see if the slow starts can be fixed.” But fuck. The conversation has been the same. I’m not sure.
I can state that, although things have been going well this year, it appears that the first two or three series have not. It began versus (the) Green Bay (Packers) in Brazil. I think that was the worst football first quarter I’ve ever been a part of.
Particularly in the first quarter of games, Hurts has struggled to get Philadelphia’s passing offense in rhythm. Against Carolina’s defense, he only managed to throw for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
The Eagles switched to a run-heavy strategy following their Week 5 bye.
The majority of Barkley’s huge plays come in the second half, but he has concealed many of their problems. In order to score more points in the first quarter, Hurts must eventually spark the Eagles’ passing attack.
When Hurts spoke about the poor starts, he stated, “We know what we’ve been doing, (what) we’ve experienced, and we’re trying to address some things so we can be better.” All of us aspire to be the last team standing and have lofty objectives. In that, too, it takes what it takes. We simply want to keep trying to be our best selves in that, and maybe we’ll succeed.
Following the game, Hurts and Johnson were among the offensive players who voiced their anger. They do think they can overcome their difficulties from the first quarter.
“We continue to fight,” Johnson added. However, we make some faults that we caused ourselves. That’s definitely the largest thing we need to clean up going forward, in my opinion. You can play the game a little more easily when you do that.
The slow starts don’t worry everyone.
Barkley likens a boxing match to Philadelphia’s aggressive plan.
They geared up their knockout punch with punches in the first quarter. Then, in the last three quarters, the Eagles dominate their opponents and throw haymakers.
Barkley stated, “I wouldn’t say it’s an issue.” Do we want to get started more quickly? Yes. However, if we were a squad that got off to a quick start and didn’t end well, I believe the topic would be different.
