Eagles fullbackOver the past two weeks, Khari Blasingame has been trusted with several responsibilities on the punt and kickoff coverage and return teams, and he has been depended upon to play significant snaps on special teams. But the Eagles’ move on Saturday puts his availability for next games in doubt.
In order for Blasingame to play Sunday afternoon against the Washington Commanders at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, the Eagles used his final elevation to remove him from the practice squad for the third time.

After linebacker and fullback Ben VanSumeren was placed on injured reserve due to a knee injury, Blasingame was signed. Blasingame, a tight end who usually lines up at the end of the line, has only seen one offensive snap since joining the Chicago Bears earlier this season. Blasingame’s experience will enable the Eagles to continue using the power run packages they shown with VanSumeren, though, which might be useful against the Commanders’ 25th-ranked run defense (132.1 yards per game).
The Eagles will need to add him on the active roster if they hope to keep him playing. Bryce Huff, a defensive end who is now on injured reserve, will need to make place for the Eagles.
Charles Harris, a defensive end the team grabbed off waivers on November 26, would be a contender to be dismissed to make way for Huff, who had his 21-day practice window opened this week following wrist surgery. This is especially true given that Harris has only played four defensive snaps in his two games. The Eagles will then have to make a difficult choice over who to cut off the roster, weighing Blasingame’s special teams contributions against the need to retain another player.
