You can watch the replays and look at the numbers. Since no team in the nation was superior during the regular season, it is rather simple to produce an accurate scouting report on Dan Lanning’s 12-0 Oregon Ducks.
But now that December has here, there are no more simple games.
The Ducks have a stronger resume heading into Saturday night’s Big Ten championship game between Oregon and 11-1 Penn State.
However, the Lions side they are facing has a 5-0 road record.
When questioned about Penn State earlier this week, Lanning stated, “I think this team has its own unique identity.”
They engage in various activities that we haven’t witnessed. They are not comparable to anyone we have played thus far, in my opinion.
They play football in a physical way, of course. Coach Franklin, in my opinion, excels in each of the three phases. They go into great detail. That seems to show up.
Great special teams teams typically have excellent coaches. These men, in my opinion, are also excellent special teams players. For these guys, I believe it all comes together.
Let’s move forward from Penn State.
Let’s discuss some specifics about Oregon.
The resume of Dillon Gabriel. The quarterback for the Ducks could be described as a bit of a nomad. He has moved from Central Florida (2019–21) to Oklahoma (2022-23) to Oregon, seldom staying in one location for too long.
At every stop, he produces at a high level.
On Saturday, Gabriel will start for the 62nd time in his career, which is the most by any FBS quarterback.
He leads the team in overall touchdowns (183), passing touchdowns (149), passing yards (18,140), and total yards (19,375) all time.
contrasting Penn State’s and Oregon’s pass rushes. The Lions, led by Abdul Carter, the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, were excellent at applying pressure to passers. In 12 games during the regular season, they recorded 32 sacks.
The Ducks have improved somewhat. In a 49-21 victory over Washington, they finished the regular season with 10 sacks, giving them 39 for the year.
The greatest of the best.On Saturday, Carter and Dani Dennis-Sutton, another edge rusher, will pursue Gabriel. After appearing to sustain a midsection injury during PSU’s victory over Wisconsin, Dennis-Sutton appears to be in good health.
Together, Carter and Dennis-Sutton have recorded 14 sacks, 15 quarterback hurries, and 26.5 tackles for loss.
The issue is that Oregon’s Josh Conerly Jr. and Ajani Cornelius are both excellent offensive tackles. Together, the two have only given up 24 QB pressures. Additionally, in their last ten games, the Ducks have only allowed five sacks.
