In a clash of undefeated teams, Cumberland Valley’s Ava Montes, Wren Seagreaves, and Lilliana Ling defeated Boiling Springs 46-27 after recording a technical fall and two pins in three of the first four fights.

With Seagreaves pinning Keagan Paulus in the first period and Montes getting a tech fall over Bryn Evans in the third, both players dropped in weight class.

For the girls in the Dome, this was their first independent girls dual. “They’re a problem at those two weights,” said Ryan Seagreaves, head coach of Cumberland Valley. They ought to compete in that manner. We needed a tech fall and a pin from those two from the very beginning.

Seagreaves, a sophomore, improves to 10-3 on the season, while Montes, a freshman, is at 8-5.

The Eagles and Bubblers combined for six straight pins from 118 pounds to 148 pounds during the duel, so there were plenty of falls.

Elizabeth Shoemaker and Amanda Delevan’s Boiling Springs falls (142) helped the Bubblers come within 29–21.

With two bouts left, Emma Beaven opened up a 40-21 advantage by technical falling Bri Irvin in the third period at 170, forcing the Bubblers to surrender the 155-pound title.

Beaven, a junior who went 11-2 in the season, stated, “This year, my goal was to avoid getting pinned.” Because she is so adaptable, I felt that it was difficult to pin her. I returned to the top after receiving some back points in order to receive additional back points.

Beaven remarked, “I got into trouble and got reversed.” My wrestling has improved as a result of my efforts to avoid such circumstances.

Her coach agreed.

I enjoyed Emma’s match because she made the proper choice when she got into trouble, bailed and lost the points, regained her composure, and immediately resumed earning points. We want to see her wrestle much more intelligently, Seagreaves stated.

At the end of the dual, Boiling Springs’ Emily Dolan (235) and the Eagles’ Kimberlee Hechler (190) both won by fall.

For the Eagles, Hechler has won ten fights. With 13 pins, the Bubblers Dolan are currently 16-2 for the season.

Cumberland Valley hosts the Cumberland Valley Duals on Sunday, inviting Central Dauphin, Gettysburg, J.P. McCaskey, Canon-McMillan, Bethlehem Liberty, Easton, and Delaware Valley. The region is now 4-0 in dual meets this season.

Boiling Springs, currently 9-1, will play again at Jim Thorpe High School during the Coal Cracker Invitational during the weekend of January 17–18.
