Kimberly Schlapman, singer of Little Big Town, revealed a secret this week that she has kept for almost two decades.

That secret?

When she got married, she was previously married.

Bewildered? It’s understandable, but she offered a positive anecdote when co-hosting Today with Jenna & Friends. When PEOPLE Magazine asked Schlapman if she had ever experienced a crazy night while on vacation, it set off a series of events.

She claimed that when we discussed this earlier, I became really anxious and my hands began to shake. I thought, “I do have a story, but only four people on the planet are aware of it.” nor my mother and father, nor my parents.

Schlapman, to her credit, said that before her parents learned the secret on the show, she called them to inform them.

“Mama, is Daddy there?” I said, “Can he hear me?” She said, “I have to tell you something.” When I told her, she exclaimed, “What?” Finally, I became more anxious, and suddenly she burst out laughing. And I said, “All right.” I married Schlap as a result. I call my spouse Schlap. Schlapman is our last name. Steve was the name of my late husband. Steve is the name of this one. This is Schlap since I am unable to call both of my attractive men Steve. Schlap and I eloped to Vegas six months prior to our November 2006 wedding.

She added that hardly anyone was aware of the story before this week.

When it came to the secret, she did realize that it was good to be rid of that after all these time.
