The Pittsburgh Steelers were ridiculed by the Cincinnati Bengals following their 19–17 victory on Saturday. The Bengals will now have to wait to find out if they qualify for the playoffs.
The Bengals trashed “Renegade” in the locker room after their victory at Acrisure Stadium. This is the first time I can remember that Renegade performed, but most teams will rejoice and play some music.
Since it began in 2002 during the team’s playoff game versus the Cleveland Browns, the Steelers have played Renegade by Styx for more than 20 years. Played every fourth quarter, it served as Pittsburgh’s rallying cry in the past.
But more teams are retaliating against the Steelers by utilizing Renegade as a striking point. During the past several seasons, a number of opponents have expressed their opinion that the song energizes both teams equally and has no influence on the stadium.
The Bengals’ celebration with the song is not surprising given their divisional opponent. The Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos must now both lose if they want the victory to count toward a postseason berth.
