Following kicker Harrison Butker’s return, the Kansas City Chiefs cut former Pittsburgh Steelerskicker Matthew Wright. After missing more than a month due to surgery for a torn meniscus in his knee, Butker was activated from injured reserve and is now back.
Wright helped lead the Chiefs to several victories while he was the team’s kicker, and he could have earned a berth on another team in the future. Among those was a 4/4 showing against the Los Angeles Chargers, which helped the Chiefs win the division.
This is the 26-year-old’s second tenure with the Chiefs; his first was in 2021. He has been a journeyman kicker. Wright, a UCF kicker who was not selected in the draft, has been brought in by the Steelers on several occasions for training camp. Since the Steelers have altered Boswell’s training regimen to ensure his body is in top condition, he assisted kicker Chris Boswell in having a lower workload this summer.
