Matthew Wright, a former Pittsburgh Steelerskicker, has joined the Kansas City Chiefs for their Black Friday game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Wright, who suffered his own injury earlier this season when kicking for the San Francisco 49ers, had to be called up after two kickers for Kansas City were sidelined by injuries.
This is the 26-year-old’s second tenure with the Chiefs; his first was in 2021. He has been a journeyman kicker. Wright, a UCF kicker who was not selected in the draft, has been brought in by the Steelers on several occasions for training camp. Since the Steelers have altered Boswell’s training regimen to ensure his body is in top condition, he assisted kicker Chris Boswell in having a lower workload this summer.
Additionally, it gave Wright an opportunity to kick in live games and demonstrate his abilities to other teams. The 49ers and now the Chiefs have called when injuries have occurred. With a career-long 59 yards, Wright has an 86 percent field goal percentage.
