The Carolina Hurricanes will play the Sabres on Wednesday night in Buffalo, up north.

Longtime Hurricanes captain and six-time NHL All-Star Eric Staal’s jersey was retired by Carolina prior to the game. Being the fourth Hurricane to do so, Staal, 40, is the owner of multiple team records.
With 15 goals and 35 assists, Martin Necas leads the team with 50 points. He is followed by Andrei Svechnikov (32) and Sebastian Aho (44) in second place.
Pyotr Kochetkov has seen a lot of play despite Carolina using five goalies this season. He has made 28 starts and is 16-9-0-2 with a 2.54 goals-against average.
The Atlantic Division’s last-place Sabres (16-22-5) have a record of 8-11-3 at KeyBank Center in Buffalo this season and 5-4-1 in their previous ten games.
They lost to Seattle 6-2 at home in their most recent game on Saturday.
After the Sabres took a 2-0 lead in the first period with to goals from Sam Lafferty and Jack Quinn, the Kraken scored six goals in a row. Buffalo’s Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 24 shots.
Following the team’s 15th blown lead in a loss, fans jeered and called for owner Terry Pegula to sell the franchise and for general manager Kevyn Adams to be fired.
With 19 goals and 34 points, Tage Thompson leads the Sabres, followed by JJ Peterka with 32 points. Rasmus Dahlin, Alex Tuch, and Jason Zucker each have 31 points.
Luukkonen is 13-13-0-4 with a 3.02 goals-against average and has started 31 games in goal.
